Western Australia Introduces Daylight Saving Time26 November 2006 For immediate release WR Consulting officially announced today that a time zone change in Western Australia starting on December 3, 2006 with the introduction of daylight saving time is fully supported in ZoneTick World Time Zone Clock. The state of Western Australia will try daylight saving time for 3 years. The exact transition dates are fully integrated in the freely distributable city time zones database from http://citytimezones.info that ZoneTick uses. Nik Okuntseff, CEO of WR Consulting, said, "ZoneTick supports complex time zone rules such as in Perth, Australia since version 3.2. Our world clock is capable to auto-update itself when need arises. Most users don't even need to know that time zones change in 2007 in North America and now in Western Australia. They just use the automatic update feature, which makes working with time zone differences and calculating the times easy." ![]() ZoneTick screenshot The full text of the proposed legislation can be found here: Western Australia Daylight Saving Bill 2006. Deputy Premier Eric Ripper today said that from 2am on December 3, clocks would be set forward one hour. Clocks would be set back one hour from March 25, 2007. In 2007 and 2008, daylight saving would begin at 2am on the last Sunday in October, and end at 2am on the last Sunday in March the following year. A referendum would be held in 2009 to decide whether it should become permanent. Mr Ripper said he was confident that Western Australians would see the advantages of daylight saving. "I believe daylight saving will enhance our lifestyle and make WA an even more attractive place to live, work and invest," he said. "Daylight saving, along with liquor reform, is another important step towards modernising WA and maximising our lifestyle opportunities." The Deputy Premier said that in the days leading up to December 3, advertisements would appear in newspapers and on the radio, informing people of the changes. More information would be available on the State Government website, http://www.wa.gov.au Deputy Premier's office - 9222 8788 |
